New Standard opened its flagship store on John R Road in Hazel Park in April 2020, making it one of metro Detroit’s earliest adult-use dispensaries. The shop launched during the height of the pandemic as curbside-and-delivery only before opening its showroom, which is designed with a clean, minimal aesthetic featuring curated art, photography, and plantlife — a deliberate departure from the utilitarian feel of many early Michigan dispensaries. The John R corridor location sits just a mile from downtown Ferndale and within easy reach of Royal Oak, Madison Heights, and the I-75 corridor, and the store’s 17-mile delivery radius covers all of Detroit, western Wayne County, and much of Macomb and northern Oakland County. New Standard has since grown to six Michigan locations, with the Hazel Park store remaining the chain’s founding flagship.
